7-Day South Luangwa & Kafue Safari

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at South Luangwa National Park – Evening Walking Safari

You will be picked up from your hotel in Lusaka by a professional guide in a 4×4 safari vehicle. The drive to South Luangwa National Park takes about 8 hours and 45 minutes.

When you arrive, you will drive slowly through the park’s vegetation and may see some animals along the way. Continue to the lodge, check in, and relax.

A tasty lunch will be served while you enjoy views of the park. After lunch, you can relax around the lodge. In the evening, rangers will guide you on a walking safari near the lodge.

This is a chance to see birds and animals close up and take photos. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive Safari

Enjoy breakfast at sunrise, then head out on a guided morning game drive in South Luangwa. Look out for animals like lions, leopards, jackals, servals, and genets.

These animals are often active early in the day. After the game drive, return to the lodge at midday for lunch.

In the afternoon, go on another game drive in a different part of the park to see more animals. Return to the lodge by sunset, enjoy dinner, and spend the night there.

Day 3: Walking Safari & Lodge Relaxation

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at the lodge. Then join the rangers for a guided walking safari near the lodge. This morning walk is a good time for taking photos of the park, animals, and birds.

Return to the lodge before noon for lunch, then spend the afternoon relaxing. Enjoy the lodge’s swimming pool, Wi-Fi, and gardens. Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by campfire storytelling before you stay overnight.

Day 4: Travel to Kafue National Park – Relax & Sundowner

Have breakfast at dawn, then check out and drive to Kafue National Park. Enjoy the changing views of Zambia along the way. On arrival, check in at the lodge and relax.

Lunch will be served, and you can spend the afternoon enjoying the peaceful setting. In the evening, join other guests for a sundowner at the lodge. Later, have dinner and rest overnight.

Day 5: Explore Kafue National Park – Boat Cruise, Birding, Canoeing & Game Drive

After breakfast, go on a sunrise boat cruise in the lower Kafue basins. Enjoy the early morning views and the plants along the river. Later in the morning, go birdwatching in the riverine areas of the park.

You may see birds like lanner falcons, hammerkops, African fish eagles, turacos, ground hornbills, black bee-eaters, egrets, yellow-billed oxpeckers, secretary birds, and green turacos. After birding, return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, go on a game drive to spot animals, including some of the Big Five. In the evening, enjoy canoeing in the river basins.

You may see buffaloes, zebras, leopards, and more birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and stay overnight.

Day 6: Visit Kaingu Trust School / Rural Village Experience

Start the day with breakfast at sunrise, then travel to Kaingu Trust School. This village is popular with visitors who want to learn about local life.

You will meet local people and join in community activities. Spend the morning enjoying cultural entertainment and conversations.

Return to the lodge at midday for lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon. Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by an overnight stay.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, check out of the lodge. You will then drive to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport for your flight home. This will mark the end of your 7-day safari.
