This sightseeing tour starts and ends in Windhoek. The 7-Day Classic Namibia Guided Safari Experience is made for travelers who want to see Namibia’s top three highlights.
You will visit the world’s oldest desert, the Namib, see some of the highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei, explore Walvis Bay and Swakopmund along the Atlantic Ocean, and end with a safari at the well-known Etosha National Park.
Day 1: Windhoek to Namib Desert
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse between 09:00 and 09:30. You will leave by 10:00 and drive south to the famous Sossusvlei area, passing through the scenic Spreetshoogte Pass.
There will be a stop at a viewpoint to enjoy the wide view of the Namib Desert. You will have lunch at the Solitaire Oasis and arrive at the lodge or campsite between 15:00 and 16:00.
The weather will be very hot during this time, so relaxing by the pool is a good idea. You will need an early rest tonight as the next day begins very early.
Day 2: Dune 45 & Sossusvlei Desert Experience
Today begins early to catch the soft morning light over the desert. After passing through Sesriem, you will head to Sossusvlei. Tall sand dunes rise on both sides of the road.
This area has white dry plains and red dunes under a deep blue sky. You will climb Dune 45 to enjoy the wide view and colors of the desert.
Then you visit Dead Vlei, a dry pan with old, dead acacia trees. You can also climb one of the tallest dunes on Earth, called Big Mama.
Later, return to camp and cool off in the swimming pool. The afternoon can be used for a walk through Sesriem Canyon. You will freshen up before dinner, and the rest of the evening is free.
Day 3: Swakopmund
Today you drive northwest through the dry but beautiful landscapes of Namib Naukluft National Park. You will pass through Ghaub and Kuiseb Canyons via Kuiseb Pass.
You’ll reach the coast at Walvis Bay and continue to Swakopmund. This town by the sea has cooler weather and a relaxed feel. You will stay here for one night.
There are many activities available in Swakopmund at your own cost.
After freshening up, you can walk along the seafront and explore the town before having dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 4: Swakopmund, Walvis Bay & Himba Village
In the morning, you will enjoy one of the best activities in Walvis Bay. You will meet a local guide for a half-day Sandwich Harbour tour. Check-in is at 08:00 at the waterfront, where your guide will give you a short briefing before starting the trip.
After this exciting activity, you will drive north toward Damaraland. You will stop for lunch on the way. The scenery here is very different and includes Namibia’s highest mountain. You will arrive at Oppi Koppi Rest Camp in the late afternoon.
After checking in, you will meet your guide and visit a Himba Village. A local guide who knows the Himba people will take you there and translate since they only speak their own language. After the visit, you return to Oppi Koppi to freshen up and enjoy dinner. The evening is free for rest.
Day 5: Kamanjab to Etosha National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to Etosha National Park, stopping for lunch on the way. You will arrive in the late afternoon. After checking in, your guide will take you on a private game drive to visit waterholes. If you’re lucky, you may see predators. But you are likely to see zebra, giraffe, elephants, rhinos, and many types of antelope.
After the game drive, return to your camp. While your guide prepares dinner on the open fire, you can freshen up. Then enjoy dinner together. After dinner, relax in the main area and watch the wildlife near the waterhole. The rest of the night is free.
Day 6: Etosha National Park
Today, you will spend most of the day looking for animals. You will visit many waterholes and stop at the Etosha Pan, also called the “place of dry water.” This wide, flat area covers about 5,000 square kilometers. Seeing large groups of animals here is a special experience. The early morning is a good time to visit the waterholes.
You will also drive across the park in search of the “Big Five” and other animals. Lunch will be served on the way. After returning to camp, you will freshen up for dinner. Later, you will go on a night game drive. When the drive ends, you return to the resort. The rest of the night is free.
Day 7: Etosha to Windhoek
After a good breakfast, you drive back to Windhoek, passing through small towns. Before reaching the city, you will stop in Okahandja to visit Namibia’s largest wood-carving market. You will likely arrive in Windhoek around 16:30. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel.
