3-Day Sossusvlei Camping Schedule and Sandwich Harbour – Set off on a 3-day journey through some of Namibia’s most famous desert areas.
This trip combines the red dunes of Sossusvlei with the beautiful coast of Sandwich Harbour.
You will start your adventure in Windhoek, passing through the Khomas Highlands and the Namib Desert.
You will camp at Sesriem, close to the high red dunes of Sossusvlei. Your trip ends back in Windhoek.
Day 1: Windhoek to Sossusvlei
Begin your trip from Windhoek and travel south through desert scenery. Enjoy views of the Khomas Highlands and the Namib Desert. Stop in Solitaire for a light lunch and try their well-known apple pie. Arrive at Sesriem Campsite in the late afternoon and set up your camp. Spend the evening watching the sun set over the dunes. Later, enjoy a campfire dinner under the clear Namibian sky.
Day 2: Explore Sossusvlei & Deadvlei
Start early before sunrise to enter Namib-Naukluft National Park. The cool morning air and soft light make this a special time. Drive to Dune 45, one of the most photographed dunes in the world. The morning sun lights up the dunes in warm shades of red and orange. Climb to the top of Dune 45 to see wide views of the sand dunes that stretch as far as you can see.
Next, go deeper into the desert to Sossusvlei, a large salt and clay pan surrounded by tall dunes. This place is known for its strange and quiet beauty. Walk in the sands and learn about the plants and animals that live here. Nearby is Deadvlei, an old white clay pan with black camelthorn trees that look very old and dry. Some trees here are over 900 years old and stand out against the white ground and red dunes.
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour Excursion & Return to Windhoek
Start your day early with breakfast. Then drive 4 to 5 hours to Walvis Bay through more of the Namib Desert’s landscapes.
Join a 4×4 tour to Sandwich Harbour in Namib-Naukluft National Park. Here, the big dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy driving over the dunes and the great views all around. Have a picnic lunch among the dunes and soak in the quiet beauty.
After the tour, drive 4 to 5 hours back to Windhoek. You will arrive in the evening to end your trip.
