Detailed 6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hike via Marangu Route Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (1860m)

Our company worker will meet you early for a briefing. You can buy any missing items before heading to Marangu Gate. After registration, you will start a 4 to 6 hour walk to Mandara Hut. You will see many plants, forests, and animals like monkeys and birds. You will have dinner and sleep at the magnificent Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

At sunrise, enjoy an energy-giving cup of coffee before a 5 to 6 hour hike. You will walk through the last part of the rainforest and into open lands. You will see the twin peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. You will feel the temperature change on this day. After lunch, you will go to the hut for dinner and a nap.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day and Mawenzi Tour (4600m)

This day is for resting. It helps you get ready for the tough climb to the summit. You will have tea and then walk around the eastern part of the mountain. You can see the landscape and the sunset before returning to the hut to sleep.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,705m)

After a heavy breakfast, you will walk through rocky ground and thin plants. You will reach Kibo Hut at 4,705m. You can see Uhuru Peak from here. The team will have dinner and sleep early because the next journey starts at midnight.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,896m)

At 1:00 am, you will start walking in the dark with torches. You will reach Hans Meyer’s Cave and then the crater rim. You will see the beautiful sunrise and ice. From there, it takes another hour to reach Uhuru Peak. After celebrating, you will walk down to Horombo Hut to rest.

Day 6: Departure

Wake up and walk through the alpine area to Marangu Gate. You will receive your hiking certificate and meet your driver. You will go to Arusha for lunch and your flight home.
