Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: A drive from Moshi to Londorossi, then to Mti Mkubwa camp
At about 7:00 am, our driver-guide will brief you about this lifetime adventure. This talk helps you prepare for the 6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hike via Lemosho Route. You will then start a 3 to 4 hour drive to Londorossi gate. At the gate, you will be registered by the park authorities. You will also meet the porters and get several other pieces of equipment to handle the six days of adventure.
After registration, you will take a 45 minute drive to the trailhead. Here, you will join others for a 3 hour walk to Mti Mkubwa Camp. The hike is amazing with lots of surprises. You can see birds and primates such as the Colobus monkeys. There are also unique tree species along the montane rain forest. Upon arriving at the Mti Mkubwa camp, which means “big tree” at 2,750m, you will enjoy dinner and a peaceful night while waiting for the next day.
Day 2: Depart Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m) to Shira 2 Camp (3840m)
Today, you will leave Mti Mkubwa camp after breakfast. This region is decorated by a thick forest. You will begin an exciting 6 to 7 hour journey to Shira 2 camp at a height of 3,840m. This area is decorated with a moorland zone. The path goes across small streams and offers charming views of the glaciers and hills.
During the 6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hike via Lemosho Route, taking time to rest is very important. You will have a brief stopover for your body to get used to the air and to eat lunch. After that, you will proceed to the camp. Here, you will start to feel the temperature change. It will get colder as you go higher. Dinner and a night of sleep come last today at the camp.
Day 3: Depart Shira (3840m) for Barranco Camp (3950m)
Just as the sun rises, you will have an energy-giving cup of coffee. This is followed by leaving Shira camp. This part of the mountain has moorland and a flourishing plantation. You will head to Barranco camp at 3,950m. Your hike from Shira camp lasts for about 7 hours. You will walk across the Lava tower.
At the Lava tower, you will have a packed lunch. You can take photos of the tower if the weather is good and enjoy some refreshments. After that, you will spend another 2 hours walking down to Barranco camp. At the camp, you can relax, have dinner, and take a nap. On this day, hikers often feel very tired. You might have a headache or feel short of breath because the temperature and air are changing. You will end the day with dinner and sleep.
Day 4: Barranco Camp (3950m) to Barafu Camp (4550m)
On this day of your 6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hike via Lemosho Route, you will have a task. You must conquer the magical Great Barranco wall after breakfast. This part of the hike may last for about 5 hours. While you climb, you can enjoy the beautiful views of Heim glacier right at a cloud point. The route bends around the Karange valley and connects to the Mweka route, which is used by people coming down the mountain.
From here, you will connect to your place of rest called Barafu Hut. Barafu is a Swahili word that means “ice.” You will have an early dinner and a nap. This is very important because the next part of the journey starts at midnight. You need as much rest as possible to reach the top.
Day 5: From Barafu camp (4550m) to the Summit; Uhuru Peak (5895m) then to Mweka (3100m)
This is the day you make your dream come true. However, it comes at a cost. You must wake up very early in the morning at 00:00 hours. You will have coffee and snacks for energy. You must also wear very warm clothes. This is the most hectic and emotionally challenging part of the hike. You will walk for about 6 hours to reach Uhuru peak.
The route moves north toward Stella Point. At Stella Point, you will stop for a rest and watch the magnificent sunrise rays. After that, you will continue with a 1 to 2 hour hike to Uhuru Peak. This is the highest point! You will take amazing photos, explore the snow, and relax for a while. You can celebrate your successful journey here. Later, you will walk down to Barafu hut for rest and lunch. Finally, you will move to Mweka camp for dinner and a long nap.
Day 6: Descend to Mweka Gate (1980m) and then departure
At daybreak, enjoy a heavy breakfast to regain your strength. Then, you will start a 3 to 4 hour walk to Mweka Gate. You will pass through plenty of vegetation and look at the hills. You will then join the driver-guide. He will take you to the airport so you can catch your flight home.
