Detailed 6 Days Rwanda Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup, Kigali city tour & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will be picked up at the airport or from your hotel by our company representative. After a short welcome talk, start a city tour of Kigali. You will visit the Genocide Memorial, local markets, and then have lunch.
After lunch, drive for about two hours to Volcanoes National Park, the most visited park in Rwanda. Dinner and overnight stay will follow.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking & visit to the Twin Lakes
After breakfast, leave the lodge and go to the park headquarters for registration and briefing. This takes about 30 minutes. Rangers will explain the rules and assign you to a gorilla group.
Mountain gorillas are only found in Africa and share about 98% of their DNA with humans. The trek can take 1 to 7 hours depending on your speed and where the gorillas are. You will spend one hour with the gorillas once you find them.
After trekking, have lunch and then go for a relaxing visit to the Twin Lakes. You can take photos and enjoy the calm at the lakeside. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking & cultural visit
After breakfast, go back to the park headquarters for briefing and begin the golden monkey trek. This takes 1 to 7 hours, depending on the movement of the monkeys. Golden monkeys are very active, so it may take effort to get good photos.
After spending one hour with them, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for an optional one to two-hour cultural visit to meet local people living near the park. Enjoy traditional dances, music, and storytelling. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast and coffee, check out and drive to Nyungwe National Park, home to 13 types of primates, including many chimpanzees. On the way, enjoy views of hills, villages, lakes, and farms.
You will have lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a lodge near or inside the park.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking & canopy walk
After early breakfast, go to the park headquarters for briefing and registration. Rangers will explain the rules and then guide you through the forest to find chimpanzees. The trek may last 1 to 4 hours. Once found, you will spend one hour watching them feed, play, or rest.
Along the way, you may also see vervet monkeys, baboons, colobus monkeys, birds, and special plants.
After the trek, return for lunch and then enjoy a canopy walk. This takes about 2 hours and gives you good views of the forest, birds, and some primates. Afterward, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Departure
After early breakfast, check out and drive back to Kigali International Airport for your flight. If your flight is late in the day, there is an option for a short morning activity before departure.
