Detailed 5 Days Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & transfer to Akagera National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our company guide will welcome you and take you to a local restaurant or hotel for lunch. After lunch, enjoy a short city tour to visit some key tourist sites, depending on your arrival time.
Later, drive to Akagera National Park. This park is home to the Big Five (elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, and lions), Masai giraffes, Defassa waterbucks, Oribis, warthogs, Topis, common elands, and many others.
The park also has over 500 bird species, including shoebill storks, papyrus gonolek, grey-crowned cranes, and African fish eagles. Arrive by sunset and check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Wildlife viewing & boat ride on Lake Ihema
Spend the day exploring the wide plains of Akagera National Park during game drives. You may see animals like black and white colobus monkeys, Masai giraffes, olive baboons, Topis, vervet monkeys, and Defassa waterbucks.
The morning game drive lasts about 3 to 4 hours. Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, go for a boat ride on the calm waters of Lake Ihema. Expect to see many hippos, crocodiles, and several bird species. Ask your guide questions during the ride, which ends before sunset. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Travel to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, leave Akagera National Park and drive back to Kigali. Visit some of the places you may have missed during the first city tour.
Have lunch in Kigali, then continue to Volcanoes National Park in the Northern Province, Rwanda’s only gorilla trekking destination.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking & visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
After breakfast, head to Kinigi Park Headquarters for a briefing before the gorilla trek. You will be guided into the forest to find your assigned gorilla group.
The trek can take 1 to 5 hours, but once found, you will spend one hour observing the gorillas. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you will experience Rwandan traditions. You will learn about local food preparation, beer brewing, traditional dances, and more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Twin Lakes visit, return to Kigali & departure
