Tanzania consists some of Africa’s most significant cultural treasures .

The stone town of Zanzibar is the most famous cultural site in Tanzania where the Persians , Europeans , Arabs and Indians once lived in the ancient times . This town is known for being a slave market where slaves were collected and then distributed to other parts of the world .

There is the  Old fort built by Oman Arabs in the 17th century and it is used to host cultural festivals.

Kondoa Irangi rock art site is another cultural site known for being a collection of ancient rock paintings. The site is found near Dodoma and has paintings found rock shelter walls depicting various scenes of human life and animals .

The red ochre painting provides a window into the spiritual world of the ancient people dating back 40,000 years .

 

 

Bagamoyo is another historical site mostly known for slave trade . Tourists will see old buildings called caravan serai where slave caravans settled before being taken to Zanzibar.

The Catholic mission museum is also available with artifacts from the abolitionist movement.

Kaole Ruins reveal the ancient mosques and tombs makimg them an historical site in the Islamic community.

 

More to that are the Kilwa kisiwani and Songo Mnara cities on the southern coast and these reveal the  first Swahili civilizations . In the 14th to 16th century these served as centers gold and ivory trade .

Touriats as well can visit the great mosques available like the great mosque of kilwa and other places like the Husuni Kubwa palace showcasing architectural brilliance .

 

 

Besides these is the Sukuma museum that preserves the ancient cultures and traditions of the sukuma people . These traditions include the snake dances and healing rituals of the people . Musical instruments include ; drums , xylophones and flutes among others .

 

 

Tanzania’s cultural sites remind us that history is not confined to museums but rhythms of daily life .
