Key Rules and Regulations for Visitors to Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park has established rules and regulations to guide tourists, guides, and locals on preserving and conserving the environment while enjoying their safari. These regulations include the following:

  • The Serengeti National Park gates open at 6 am and close at 6 pm daily. All guests should avoid entering before the opening time and ensure they exit before closing, as all park gates are closed by 6 pm.
  • Unauthorized firearms are prohibited in the park for the safety of both people and animals in Serengeti National Park.
  • The speed limit of 50 km/hr must not be exceeded by both guests and drivers to prevent accidents involving crossing animals and harm to other wildlife species.
  • Feeding wild animals, especially carnivores, weakens their natural hunting instincts. Therefore, feeding animals is strictly prohibited.
  • Off-tracking during game drives is prohibited. Guests must use authorized tracks to explore the park.
  • Serengeti National Park is the animals’ home, and they have the right of way. Drivers should respect this and give way to animals when they are crossing.
  • Camping is only permitted in designated camping areas as determined by park authorities.
  • Noise pollution disrupts the daily movements of animals. Guests are urged to avoid hooting, playing music, or shouting while touring Serengeti National Park.
  • Pets are not allowed in the park, as Serengeti National Park is not pet-friendly.
  • Smoking in public areas is strictly prohibited, but designated smoking areas are available in the camps.
  • Smoking is not allowed during game drives, and guests should responsibly dispose of cigarette butts at their lodge or camp.
  • Littering is strictly prohibited, as it can harm or even be fatal to animals. It can also hinder plant growth.

Serengeti National Park rules and regulations are posted at all entry gates, and penalties are enforced for violations when proven guilty by park officials. These rules and regulations have made guests more responsible, contributing to the preservation and conservation of Serengeti National Park’s environment for future generations to enjoy their safaris.
