Detailed 2-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early for breakfast at your hotel or upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. Your tour guide will take you on a city tour in Kigali, visiting the Kigali craft market, Kandt House Museum of Natural History, and Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site.
Have lunch in Kigali, then transfer north to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. This park is home to some of the remaining families of endangered mountain gorillas.
Enjoy dinner and overnight at your booked accommodation.
Day 2: Morning Gorilla Trekking & transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast at the hotel, assemble at the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. Bring your trekking gear, drinking water, and packed lunch.
The briefing lasts about 30 minutes. A park ranger will give you important guidelines on responsible gorilla trekking in Rwanda, including the rules to follow while tracking these animals.
Then, proceed to the forest to track the gorillas. This activity can take between 2 and 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are in the forest.
After spending up to one hour with the gorillas, taking photos and watching them, you will return to the park headquarters.
Your driver will meet you there and transfer you back to Kigali city or Kigali International Airport.
