Mount Kenya is Kenya’s tallest mountain and in Africa, it comes 2nd after the snow-capped Kilimanjaro volcano. Rising high at elevation of 5199 m, Mt. Kenya has peaks Batian (5199m), Nelion (5188m) and Point Lenana (4985m). This 5-day Mount Kenya hiking safari provides adventure seekers a remarkable opportunity to conquer some of the finest peaks on this extinct volcano.
Mt. Kenya is an extinct volcano, formed about three million years ago after the East African rift valley opened. This volcano is found in the former Eastern and Central province of Kenya, and contains unique vegetation bands ranging from the base to the peak.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Travel from Nairobi to Kenya Volcano
Early in the morning, leave the beautiful Nairobi city for Mount Kenya hiking adventure. You will be driven via the stunning agricultural countryside to Chogoria town where you brief stopover will be made for lunch meal. Continue from Chogoria to the bamboo forest edge and catch up with officials for briefing. Your first phase of trek begins at the lush bamboo forest, 10km away from Mount Kenya bandas.
Day 2: Hike to Lake Ellis Campsite 3600m
After a hefty breakfast, start your trek from Kenya bandas, about 3 hours’ hike to an elevation of 3600m. You will be joined by porters who will be carrying your heavy load as you concentrate on the adventure. Today, you will be enjoying incredibly scenic view of Mugi, Giants Billards and Ithanguni table while on a walk through Lake Ellis. At this point, you will also have about 3km walk navigating via the spectacularly stunning scenery and flora. Settle for lunch around the stream banks, and later, proceed to the hillside to check in at Ellis campsite 3600m.
Day 3: Minto’s Camp 4200m
Delicious breakfast will be enjoyed and you take yet another off-the-beaten track through the ridge about 3 hours. Today’s trek leads you to the tourist track along the normal Chogoria path at elevation 4100m. Get the incredible views of the Gorges Valley and head towards the Ithanguni and the Northern Moorland.
Get lunch at the small stream crossing and later, spend an hour to reach Mintos Hut 4200m.
Day 4: Point Lenana camp to Old Moses camp
Today, you will begin your hike to the summit (Point Lenana 4985m), 3hours. Have the most scenic view of the sun as it rises and later, begin descending to Shipton camp to have a leisurely breakfast. From Shipton, proceed for 5 hours descending through Mackinder’s valley till you get to the Old Moses camp 3300m. This area is generally gentle and you will be in position to enjoy its breathtaking scenery dominated by moorlands then you connect to the camp.
Day 5: Departure
Enjoy a hot cup of tea/coffee, and descend down to Sirimon park gate, about 3 hours walk. At this point, meet your driver guide ready to be transferred to Nairobi city.
