Detailed 15-Day Primates & Wildebeest Migration Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and City tour

Arrive at the airport where you will find your safari guide waiting for you. The guide will brief you about the journey and then you will go for a city tour in Kampala. Visit different features including the Uganda Museum. This is the oldest museum in East Africa. You will also visit Nakasero market, which is a great source of fresh fruits. You can see the Independence monument and enjoy the view of the hills of Kampala. Later, you will go to your hotel to relax and wait for the next day.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park and Cultural tour

You will wake up early in the morning and have breakfast. By 7:30 am, you will set off to Western Uganda. This is where you will visit the chimpanzees. The journey is a bit long, but it will have stopovers for scenic views and lunch along the way.

You will reach the park in the evening and check in at the lodge. Then, you will go for a cultural tour. Here, you will visit the Bakiga and Batoro people who live near the Kibale forest. They will welcome you with smiles, dance for you, and sing. After the tour, go back to the lodge in the late evening for dinner and sleep.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up early and have a cup of coffee or tea. Head to Kanyanchu, the park headquarters, for a talk and to get a group of chimpanzees to track. Kibale National Park has the largest population of chimpanzees in the world. Visiting this park gives you a 100% chance of meeting these endangered primates.

You will have a guide who will lead you to the chimpanzees. The walk usually takes between 2 to 4 hours. You will get a full hour to stay with the chimpanzees. You can take pictures and videos. Later, go back to the lodge for lunch before going to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After lunch, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel. This is a fascinating experience because it brings many animals and birds to the water. You will spot herds of elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and warthogs. You might even see lions. Later, go to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Game drive and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early and have breakfast. Set off for a game drive in the Ishasha area to meet the tree climbing lions. You will spot many antelopes, elephants, and buffaloes. Look for leopards resting in the tree branches and many types of birds.

After saying goodbye to the park, you will head to Bwindi. Have lunch along the way. Arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in the evening. You will check in and go for a cultural tour to meet the Batwa people. They are known as the men of the forest. They will dance for you and show you how they lived in the old days. They have a shop where you can buy local items. Later, return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and relaxation at the lodge

Wake up early and have a nice breakfast. Go to the park headquarters for a talk by the ranger guide. They will give you a gorilla family to visit. Your ranger is very knowledgeable and will take you to meet these giant primates. When you meet them, enjoy your time. Spend one hour watching how they feed and take care of their young ones. Take as many pictures as you want.

Walk back to the headquarters to meet your guide and return to the lodge for lunch. You will have some time to relax and get energy for your trip to Rwanda the next day. This is a very special day of the 15-Day Primates & Wildebeest Migration Safari.

Day 6: Cross to Volcanoes National Park

Wake up in the morning and have breakfast. Check out of the lodge and start your trip to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. You will have lunch on the way. Arrive in the park in the evening hours. Check in at your lodge and have dinner.

Day 7: Golden monkey tracking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural tour

Have a lovely breakfast and go to the park headquarters. You will learn the rules for the forest and then go into the wild. You will enjoy watching the golden monkeys and seeing many birds. Take plenty of pictures and videos. Later, go to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu village. This is a cultural site that shows Rwanda culture through dances and songs. You will enjoy the evening before going back to the lodge for dinner and sleep.

Day 8: Fly to Tanzania

Wake up early and have a packed breakfast. Start the journey to Kigali. This is about a 3-hour road trip with great views of the landscape and plants. You will arrive in the late afternoon for your flight to Arusha or Kilimanjaro airport in Northern Tanzania. If you arrive early, you can go directly to the Ngorongoro area.

Day 9: Full day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater

On the 9th day of your 15-Day Primates & Wildebeest Migration Safari, you will have a full day game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. This area has the largest crater in the world. You will spot many animals like elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and lions. You will also see zebras and many birds. Have a picnic lunch and continue the experience until sunset. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 10: Game drive and transfer to Serengeti National Park

Wake up and have a lovely breakfast. Go for a game drive as you leave the crater area. You can see animals when they are very active in the morning. You might see leopards hunting or lions with a buffalo.

Continue and arrive in Serengeti National Park in the afternoon. Check in and have lunch. In the evening, go for a game drive to look for the Big 5: lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos. You will also see wildebeests, zebras, and cheetahs. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 11 and 12: Full day game drive in Serengeti National Park

In these 2 days, you will wake up and have breakfast. Get your lunch packed and go into the wilderness. You will spot thousands of wildebeests crossing the Grumeti River. They move back and forth to find green grass. This migration happens every year and attracts predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas. You will enjoy the endless plains of the Serengeti. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 13: Cross to Maasai Mara and game drive

Wake up and do a game drive as you head to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. You will say goodbye to Tanzania. Arrive in the afternoon and check in at your lodge. Have lunch and then go for an evening game drive. You will look for lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos. You will also see zebras and cheetahs. Later, go back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 14: Full day game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve

This is the best day to finish your safari. Wake up and have breakfast. Get your lunch packed and start a game drive. Go deep into the jungle near the Mara River. You will see how the wildebeests cross the river to go to the Serengeti. This is the biggest animal migration in the world.

The movement of wildebeests and zebras across the river is an unforgettable experience. You will have a picnic lunch while you watch the animals. Predators are always nearby looking for a meal. Return to the lodge in the evening for your last dinner of the trip.

Day 15: Transfer to Nairobi for departure

On the last day, you will have a slow breakfast and check out of the lodge. You will transfer to Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi. You will have lunch on the way. Depending on your flight time, your driver will drop you at the airport or at a hotel. This marks the end of your 15-Day Primates & Wildebeest Migration Safari.
