6 Days Somaliland In-Depth Tour – This itinerary combines the highlights of Somaliland with the best places in the western part of the country.
Explore the culture of the capital city, small farming towns, mountain areas, and wildlife.
Take an off-road trip to Ga’an Libah Reserve to enjoy the mountain views and local animals.
Day 1: Arrival in Hargeisa
You will be picked up and taken to your hotel. Depending on what time you arrive, you may have time to explore Hargeisa. Once you’ve rested, you can take a short walk in the city center to see the people and learn about the town.
Day 2: Hargeisa to Laas Geel & Berbera
Start the day in Hargeisa by visiting the Civil War Memorial and the Central Market. After that, visit Laas Geel, one of Africa’s most important rock art sites.
The paintings are thought to be around 10,000 years old and are still in good condition. Then continue to Berbera and check into your hotel.
You can relax at the beach and go for a swim before sunset.
Day 3: Berbera to Sheikh to Hargeisa
After breakfast, tour Berbera’s old town, where you will see buildings from the Ottoman and British times. After the visit, drive to the mountain town of Sheikh.
The road through the Sheikh Mountains offers great views and cool weather. Later, continue to Hargeisa where you will stay overnight.
Day 4: Hargeisa to Borama
Borama is the third largest city in Somaliland and home to Amoud University. The road to Borama passes through the small towns of Arabshiyo and Gebiley, which are known for farming and traditional Somali life.
In Borama, you will enjoy views of the city and spend the night at a hotel.
Day 5: Dhagax Kurre & Return to Hargeisa
On your way back to Hargeisa, stop at Dhagax Kurre, an old rock art site. Here, you’ll see paintings of animals and people on several rock walls in a scenic area.
Once back in Hargeisa, you’ll have free time to explore and will stay the night at the hotel.
Day 6: Ga’an Libah Mountains & End of Tour
In the morning, drive from Hargeisa to the Ga’an Libah Mountains, which means “Lion’s Paw.” On the way, you’ll pass small villages with traditional Somali homes.
At 1,720 meters above sea level, Ga’an Libah is a forest area with wildlife and is popular with birdwatchers.
From the top of the cliff, the view is very nice. Take a short hike to visit some parts of the mountains and see a cave. After the hike, return to Hargeisa, where the tour will end.
