During a safari in Andringitra National Park, the main attractions are the landscape, plants, and trekking. Trekking here is a big challenge because the park covers 31,160 hectares of mountains, including Pic Boby, the second highest peak in Madagascar at 2,658 meters.
There is some wildlife in the park, but they are not the main attraction.
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo
You will arrive at Antananarivo Airport, known as Tana, where our local team will meet you and take you safely to the hotel. Tana is Madagascar’s capital with a rich history and culture.
There are also some unexpected wildlife spots to visit during your stay.
You can explore excellent markets and shops that sell products and crafts from all over Madagascar at good prices.
Day 2: Road Transfer to Antsirabe
After breakfast, you will travel by road to Antsirabe along National Road 7. On the way, you will pass through Ambatolampy, the aluminum foundry capital, which you will visit on the return trip.
You will cross the Highlands region, where you will see rice terraces, farms, and traditional red brick houses in many villages. The friendly local people will also be a great part of your journey.
You will continue south on National Road 7 and stay overnight in Ambositra.
Day 3: Exploring Ambositra & Fianarantsoa
In the morning, you will shop in Ambositra and visit the Zafimaniry artisans’ workshop and local handicraft market. After exploring the town, you will continue to Fianarantsoa.
The name means “place of good learning” and the city lives up to this with much to discover. Fianarantsoa has two parts, the lower and upper town, separated by a steep climb.
Next, you will arrive in Ambalavao, visit the famous Antemoro paper workshop, and then the Anja private reserve, managed by the local village community. You will spend the night in Ambalavao.
Day 4: Start Trekking in Namoly Valley
Early in the morning, you will drive to the starting point of the trek at Namoly. From there, you will walk for about two hours to reach the first camp, where you will spend the night in a tent.
The Antantsoa camp is surrounded by rice terraces that add beauty to the landscape.
Day 5: Trekking to Andriampotsy
If the first day was hard, the second day will be even tougher as you climb hills. Guides and porters from Andringitra will give instructions before you start hiking to the heart of Andringitra.
Along the way, you will see caves, sacred waterfalls, thick forests, and shrubs. You will also have the chance to swim in a natural pool.
Your destination for the day is Andriampotsy, where you will spend the night in a tent.
Day 6: Climb Pic Boby
You will wake up early in the cool morning and begin the climb to Pic Boby, Madagascar’s second highest peak. You will pass through a lunar-like landscape, very unusual for a mountain area and unforgettable.
After this adventure, you will walk through a forest of a rare palm tree called “ravenea glauca” to the Iantaranomby campsite by a river, where you can cool off and spend the night in a tent.
At the peak, enjoy a wide view of the whole region. If the weather is good, you can even see the Isalo massif far to the south.
Standing on the mountain top is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will always remember.
Day 7: Trek to Tsaranoro Valley
After breakfast, you will hike down to Tsaranoro valley. Here, you might see Pachypodium enchyflorum, several aloe species, and lizards. The path passes through several villages of Barabory, where the Betsileo and Bara cultures meet.
From Morarano village, you will cross the Tsaranoro valley to finish at Camp Catta hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the thick forests of Tsaranoro valley and enjoy the adventure fully.
Day 8: Travel Back to Antsirabe
After breakfast, you will meet your vehicles and travel back to Antsirabe, passing through Fianarantsoa and Ambositra. Antsirabe means “a lot of salt” and is the third largest city in Madagascar.
It is known for its beautiful spa, volcanic mountains nearby, clean air, and cool climate all year.
Day 9: City Tour & Return to Antananarivo
After breakfast, enjoy a city tour by rickshaw. Visit workshops where local handcrafts are made, including jewelry from zebu horn and toys from old tin cans.
Then, drive back to Antananarivo with a stop in Ambatolampy, a village known for metalwork. You can buy cast aluminum souvenirs along the road.
After the visit, continue to Tana where you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 10: Last Day in Madagascar
Your last day starts with a delicious breakfast. Then you will take a short city tour by car around Antananarivo. Visit colorful local markets where you can buy souvenirs.
Finally, you will be transferred to the international airport for check-in and your flight home. You will leave with many great memories to share with family and friends.
