6-Day Bale Mountains Trekking Tour

Day 1: Arrival to Bale Mountains

When you arrive at Goba airport, meet your guide and drive to Bale Mountains National Park Headquarters. From there, we will walk around the park headquarters where you may see rare and endangered mammals like Menelik’s Bushbuck, Mountain Nyala, Warthog, Reedbuck, Gray Duikers, and Baboons.

You can also find Ethiopian birds that live only here, such as the Black-headed Siskin, Wattled Ibis, and Abyssinian Catbird in the juniper forest around the park.

Overnight at Dinsho Campsite, 3100 meters above sea level.

Day 2: Trek from Dinsho to Sodota Campsite

After breakfast, start the 18 km hike to Sodota. From Dinsho, walk through the beautiful Web Valley toward Fincha Habera waterfall, where the Web and Wolla rivers meet.

Here, you may see the rare Ethiopian wolf, birds of prey, rock hyrax, and birds like the Blue-winged Goose. This part of the Bale Mountains shows real wilderness. When you reach the campsite, enjoy a nice coffee or tea break.

Overnight at Sodota Campsite, 3500 meters above sea level.

Day 3: Trek from Sodota to Wasema

The hike to Wasema offers great views through a lovely area. Cross Mararo Valley, where Lammergeyer and Verreaux Eagles build their nests. You might also see many birds and the Ethiopian wolf. The hike takes about six to seven hours.

Overnight at Wasema Campsite, 3900 meters above sea level.

Day 4: Trekking to Sanetti Plateau

Start the day hiking from Wasema and then go down into Worgona Valley. You may see falcons, birds of prey, and possibly the Ethiopian wolf. Walk through the wild Afro-alpine moorlands, open alpine landscapes, and lakes on the plateau. This hike takes about seven to eight hours.

Overnight at Sanetti Campsite, 4100 meters above sea level.

Day 5: Drive to Harenna Forest

After breakfast, meet your vehicle and drive to Harenna Forest, the country’s second tropical rainforest. On the way, you might see the rare Ethiopian wolf, Abyssinian hare, and many water birds like the Wattled Crane, Blue-winged Goose, and Ruddy Shelduck. Then hike in the forest to visit a waterfall and walk the Bamboo Trail. You may spot the Bale monkey and many bird species here.

Overnight at Tokuma.

Day 6: Transfer to Airport for your flight to Addis

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
