Day 2: Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara & Memphis
After breakfast, your guide will take you to the Giza Pyramids Complex, one of the oldest sites in Egypt and the only remaining wonder of the ancient world. The site dates back over 4,000 years and includes the three main pyramids, six smaller pyramids, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley Temple.
The Great Pyramid was built by King Khufu around 2580 BC. It took 20 years to build and stood 147 meters (481 feet) tall, making it the tallest structure in the world for over 3,000 years. The inside is still a mystery to many researchers.
The Great Sphinx is 73 meters long and 19 meters high. It has the body of a lion and the head of a man, believed to be King Khafre. It is a symbol of strength and wisdom. Nearby is the Valley Temple, where the ancient Egyptians prepared the pharaoh’s body for burial. The temple is made of limestone and granite and has statues of King Chephren.
You will then visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to many important artifacts from over 5,000 years ago. Inside you can see the Hanging Obelisk, statues of Ramses II and King Senusret, the grand staircase, royal items from Ptolemaic times, and more.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before visiting Saqqara, the site of the first pyramid ever built. The Step Pyramid of Djoser was built by his architect Imhotep and stands 62 meters high. It was part of a larger complex used for ceremonies.
Next, visit Memphis, Egypt’s first capital and home to many important ruins. It was known as the “Land of Endurance” and the “Home of the God Ptah.” You’ll see statues and remains of temples dedicated to gods like Aton and Hathor, as well as rulers such as Ramses II.
At the end of the day, return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Egyptian Museum, Citadel, Mosques & Old Cairo
After breakfast, you’ll begin your day in central Cairo. Start with a visit to the Egyptian Museum, built in 1901. It holds the largest collection of ancient Egyptian items in the world.
After lunch at a local restaurant, continue your tour at the Salah El Din Citadel. Built in 1182 by Salah El Din, it was once the main seat of power and protected Cairo during the Crusades and Napoleon’s invasion. Later it became the center of government.
Inside the Citadel, visit the Alabaster Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Mohamed Ali. It was built between 1830 and 1848 and designed to look like the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Its design combines Ottoman and French styles, with colorful decoration and a large dome.
You will then go to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), located in Old Cairo. The museum displays 50,000 items from 4,000 years of history, including the famous royal mummies and artifacts from different periods.
Next, visit Al Muizz Street, an old street from the 10th century. It is full of old Islamic architecture and connects with Khan El Khalili Bazaar. The area is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
End your day at Khan El Khalili Bazaar, the oldest market in Cairo, dating back to 970 AD. Here you can shop for souvenirs, enjoy traditional cafés, and see buildings that are still in good shape after many centuries.
After the tour, return to your hotel for the night.
