8 Days Djibouti and Somaliland Combined Tour – Experience 8 days and 7 nights exploring Djibouti and Somaliland. To save time and avoid the long drive through the semi-desert areas in western Somaliland, you will fly between Djibouti City and Hargeisa.
Day 1: Arrival in Djibouti City
We will pick you up from the airport and take your luggage to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you will have a chance to explore Djibouti City, the busy capital.
Day 2: Drive to Lake Abbé through the Desert
In the morning, we will drive to Lake Abbé. On the way, you will pass through the Grand Bara and Petit Bara deserts. You will spend the night at the Lake Abbé Camp, which is made up of traditional African huts.
These huts are simple, but the sunset views around the camp are nice to see.
Day 3: Sunrise at Lake Abbé & Visit Lake Assal
Wake up early to watch the sunrise. Lake Abbé has many tall limestone chimneys. On a short walk around the lake, you may see nomads, flamingos, and hot springs.
After the tour, we will drive to Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa. Along the way, you will enjoy views of Canyon Adalah and the Goubet area.
Day 4: Visit Tadjourah & Relax at the Beach
Today, we visit Tadjourah, Djibouti’s oldest town, known for its white houses. After walking through the town, we will go to Plage des Sables Blancs. Here, you can relax on the white sand beach and enjoy a drink.
Later, we return to Djibouti City for the night before flying to Somaliland the next morning.
Day 5: Explore Hargeisa City
Upon arrival in Hargeisa, you will visit the Civil War Memorial and the Central Market. After a short rest, you are free to walk around the city center and experience daily life in Hargeisa.
Day 6: Livestock Market & Laas Geel Rock Art
We begin the day with a visit to the Livestock Market. Livestock is very important to Somaliland’s economy. Then, we drive to the Laas Geel rock art site, one of the most important in Africa.
The paintings are about 10,000 years old and still show bright colors. Later, we continue to Berbera. At the beach hotel, you can relax, swim, or enjoy snorkeling, diving, or a boat ride.
Day 7: Tour of Berbera & Drive through Sheikh Mountains
After breakfast, we will explore the old town of Berbera, which has many buildings from the Ottoman and British periods. After the visit, we will drive through the mountains to the small town of Sheikh. You can enjoy the views and fresh air along the way. Later, we return to Hargeisa for the night.
Day 8: Departure
You will be taken to the airport for your flight back home.
