4 Days Djibouti Highlights Tour – Djibouti was once known as French Somaliland (1896–1967) and later as the French Territory of the Afars and Issas (1967–1977). The country became independent from France on 27 June 1977.
The capital, Djibouti City, is built on coral reefs at the southern entrance of the Gulf. Other important towns include Obock, Tadjourah, Ali Sabieh, Arta, and Dikhil.
Although small in size, Djibouti plays an important role in the region. Its capital is home to a modern deepwater port that serves the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.
It also has a French naval base and connects to Ethiopia through a railway line that reaches Addis Ababa.
This 4-day tour will take you to the best places in Djibouti and introduce you to some of its most special landscapes and towns.
Day 1: Arrival in Djibouti City
You will be picked up and taken to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may have a chance to explore the main city of Djibouti.
Day 2: Drive to Lake Abbé
We will leave early in the morning and drive to Lake Abbé. On the way, we will pass through the Grand Bara and Petit Barra deserts. We will stop in Dikhil for lunch before continuing to Lake Abbé.
You will spend the night at the Tourist Camp, made up of simple traditional huts. At sunset, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the lake.
Day 3: Lake Abbé & Lake Assal
Wake up early to see the sunrise at Lake Abbé, known for its chimney-like formations. On a walking tour, you may see nomads, flamingos, and hot springs. The area is also interesting for its geology.
Later, we drive to Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa. On the way, we visit Canyon Adaleh and enjoy views of the Goubet area. At Lake Assal, the large salt field looks like an empty land.
The water shows different colors depending on how the sun hits it. We then continue to Tadjourah for an overnight stay.
Day 4: Tadjourah & Beach Time
Tadjourah is the oldest town in Djibouti, known for its white-washed buildings. After sightseeing, we go to Plage des Sables Blancs, a quiet white sand beach.
Here, you can relax under the sun and enjoy good food and drinks. Afterward, we return to Djibouti City, where the tour ends.
