2 DAYS VISIT TO SASSA CAVES AND KWANZA SUL.–

Planning a 2 Days Visit to Sassa Caves and Kwanza Sul? Kwanza Sul is one of Angola’s provinces. It is in the south of the country, close to Luanda, and borders the Atlantic Ocean. The weather is tropical, and the best time to visit is in July and August. Kwanza Sul has been part of Angola since colonial times and is known for its beaches. The province also has mountains, caves with old paintings from the Neolithic era, ancient ruins, and many other caves.

The Sassa Caves are the most well-known in the area and were nominated as one of the 7 Wonders of Angola. Besides the caves, the area is also popular for its beaches, waterfalls, hot springs, and sand dunes.

The Sassa Caves are among the most famous in Angola. The nearby Sassa dunes (Barragem da Sassa), waterfalls, and thermal springs are also popular places to visit. Other attractions include Praca dos Namorados, more waterfalls and hot springs, and the Grutas de Maria Bonita, which overlooks the water.

Day 1: Travel from Luanda and Visit to the Sassa Caves

We will leave Luanda at around 6:00 in the morning and travel south, stopping at the Miradouro do Lua viewpoint. On the way, we will cross the Kwanza River and pass through Kissama National Park. After that, we will drive through Rio Longa, which is the border between Quiçama and Kwanza Sul.

We will take a short break in Porto Amboim, then continue to the Cubal Caves on the River Cubal. From there, we will head to Sassa to visit the caves.

The 30-minute walk to the Sassa Caves goes through a quiet savannah with very few people living nearby. After the hike, we will drive to Sumbe, where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Visit to Angoeira Waterfalls and Return to Luanda

After breakfast, we will visit the small waterfalls where the River Angoeira meets another stream. The area is surrounded by beautiful Savannah and woodlands of the Angola Scarp. Each area has its own plants and animals. This quiet place is very special because it is home to bird species that are found only in this part of the world.

Before the Civil War, this region was one of Angola’s top coffee-growing areas. Sadly, it has not recovered fully since then. Take time to enjoy the peaceful scenery before we drive back to Luanda. We expect to arrive at around 6:00 in the evening.
