4-Day Birding Adventure in Kakamega Forest – Kenya’s Bird Paradise

Day 1: Pick up and head to Nairobi national park for birding

Be picked from any agreed point in Nairobi. You will head to Nairobi national park for your adventure birding tour. Birds that are spotted here include African Darter, African Fin foot, Dwarf Bittern, Goliath Heron, and Saddle-billed Stork to mention but a few. Head to the hotel in Nairobi to rest.

Day 2: Transfer to Kakamega Forest from Nairobi and enroute birding

Have a morning breakfast in the hotel room as you watch over different birds like Pigeon Rameron Pigeon, Lemon Dove, Dusky Turtle-Dove, Red-eyed Dove, Ring-necked Dove, Laughing Dove and more. Arrive on the eve I g and head for an evening birding tour where you get to see birds like Blue Headed Bee Eater, Black Billed Turaco, Turner’s Eremomela and Grey Parrots and many more others. Check in the booked accommodation for your dinner.

Day 3: Full-day birding in Kakamega forest

We begin the search for the birds in the forest with a hike to Lirhanda Hill which is the highest peak in Kakamega forest offering great scenery. The walk offers a great number of birds such as Turner’s Eremomela, Black Billed Turaco, Grey Parrots, Ansorge’s Greenbul, Blue-headed Bee-eater, Chapin’s Flycatcher and Turner’s Eromomela, Red-fronted Parrot, African Citril, White-bellied Tit, and Boran Cisticola.
While in the forest, meet large and small mammals, birds, plants and insects but focus on your birding expedition. Birding will be done in two shifts that is early morning and late evening. In. the middle of the day, you may decide to visit the local community to learn about culture and norms. Discover their traditional music and dances, meals, and dressing attire of the native Nandi people.

Day 4: Morning bird watching and head back to Nairobi

Begin the day with an early bird-watching experience where you will watch birds waking up such as the African blue flycatcher, African broadbill, African emerald cuckoo, African goshawk, Banded Prinia, Black cuckoo, Black-and-white casqued hornbill. Later on, head back to Nairobi and be dropped at any agreed point.
