Detailed 4-Day Kruger Park & Private Lodge Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park & afternoon game drive
When you arrive in Johannesburg, a professional guide will meet you at the airport. You will then start the trip to Kruger National Park. The drive takes about 52 minutes because the park is near Johannesburg.
Drive to your lodge when you arrive at the park and check in. Relax in your room and enjoy the pleasant surroundings at the lodge.
Later in the afternoon, enjoy a good lunch. Then, go on an evening walk around the lodge. This walk lets you feel the breeze of the park and connect with nature. On this walk, you will see many bird species, including sunbirds, hamerkop, African fish eagles, turacos, Abyssinian ground hornbill, black bee-eaters, cinnamons, African paradise flycatcher, African darters, and owls.
Go back to the lodge in the evening for a well-prepared dinner and overnight rest.
Day 2: Full day in Kruger National Park. Three game drives
At sunrise, enjoy a tasty breakfast while watching the sun come up over the park. Then, go on a sunrise game drive. You will see many animals in Kruger Park, especially the Big 5, spotted hyenas, Defassa waterbucks, common elands, warthogs, baboons, and zebras.
The game drive continues until mid-morning. Then, go back to the lodge to relax in your room while the staff prepares your lunch. Enjoy lunch at the lodge. Afterwards, go on an afternoon game drive. This drive gives you more chances to see animals in the park and rare plants like riverine forests, baobab trees, mixed acacia thickets, and mopani shrubs.
Tasty snacks will be served in the bush in the evening while you look at Kruger. Continue with a sunset game drive until it gets dark. This sunset drive lets you see Kruger’s lions, leopards, and hyenas.
Go back to the lodge when it gets dark for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Morning game drive in central Kruger National Park. Exit to a Private Game Reserve
Enjoy an early breakfast at sunrise at the lodge. Then, check out and go on a morning game drive in the central part of Kruger Park. Enjoy seeing different animals in this area all morning.
Leave Kruger National Park around noon and travel to the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. Drive to your lodge in the reserve when you arrive and have a good meal.
Then, go on an afternoon game drive in Timbavati. This gives you the chance to explore the reserve fully and see its wildlife. The reserve is a great place to see the Big 5 animals and other interesting creatures like common elands, warthogs, Defassa waterbucks, common genets, bushbucks, and hyenas.
Relax in the bush all evening. Enjoy snacks provided to keep your energy up during the drives. A sunset game drive will then happen in the reserve. This drive lets you see more of the reserve’s wildlife, especially cats as they start hunting.
Head back to the lodge in the evening. Enjoy a good dinner and stay overnight.
Day 4: Sunrise game drive. Transfer back to Johannesburg
Breakfast will be served very early at the lodge in the reserve. Then, go on a sunrise game drive in Timbavati private game reserve. Look for more animals and beautiful birds like barn owls, lanner falcons, red-billed teals, green turacos, Abyssinian ground hornbill, black bee-eaters, cinnamons, egrets, secretary birds, African fish eagles, great blue turacos, and piapiacs.
Drive back to the lodge mid-morning. Pack your bags and check out. Then, drive to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. This drive takes about 52 minutes. At the airport, you will catch your flight home.
