Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda is done in several places, but Kibale National Park offers the best experience. No other place matches Kibale for chimpanzee trekking and habituation. The chimp trekking experience here is special.
The park covers 795 square kilometers and is home to thirteen types of primates. That is why it is called the primate capital of the world.
Kibale Forest is best known for chimpanzees. It is home to more than 1,450 chimpanzees and other primates like the red-tailed monkey, black and white colobus monkey, and the red colobus monkey, which is only found in Kibale.
During this 3-day chimpanzee trekking safari, you will spend at least one hour with the chimpanzees, watching how they eat, play, and behave.
Chimpanzees can be tracked three times a day: in the morning, mid-morning, or afternoon. Once you find them, you are allowed to stay for only one hour.
You can also do other activities on this tour, such as cultural visits and Crater Lake walks. The price for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda depends on the travel class you choose. You can choose a budget or luxury option.

Detailed Uganda Chimpanzee Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Depart Kampala & travel to Kibale Forest National Park
On this day, you will travel from Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park through Fort Portal, Uganda’s tourism city.
Along the way, enjoy views of mountains, hills, forests, and crater lakes. Fort Portal has over 58 crater lakes.
There will be stopovers for taking photos, especially at tea plantations. After the drive, you will arrive at your lodge for an overnight stay.
Kibale has many lodges to choose from. Whether you want luxury, mid-range, or budget accommodation, you will find a good place to stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & cultural visit in Isunga Community
After breakfast, your guide will take you to Kanyanchu, the starting point for chimpanzee trekking.
A trained ranger will brief you and then lead you into the forest to look for the chimpanzees.
Once you find them, watch them swing from tree to tree, eat, play, and interact. This will be a very interesting part of the trip.
In the afternoon, after lunch, visit the Isunga Community for a cultural experience. You will watch traditional music and dances from the Batooro and Bakiga people.
You can also join in the dance and enjoy the music. After the visit, your guide will take you back to the lodge to relax.
Day 3: Crater Lake walk & return to Kampala
Wake up early and have breakfast with a view of the crater lakes. Then go for a Crater Lake walk, which takes about 3 to 4 hours.
You will visit about three to five lakes. Some of them include Lake Nyabikere (lake of frogs), Lake Nyinabulitwa, and Lake Nyamirima (lake of darkness).
Your guide will explain the names and stories behind these lakes and answer your questions.
After the walk, return to the lodge, check out, and travel back to Kampala. This marks the end of your chimpanzee trekking tour in Kibale.
