Detailed 7-Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Flight transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve

Your trip begins with a drive to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. From there, you will catch your flight to an airstrip in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. This is a short but scenic experience with great views of the land below.

Your safari guide will be waiting for you at the airstrip. He will take you on your first game drive in the famous Maasai Mara. This park is one of the best homes for the great wildebeest migration. You will see many different animals and bird life. At the end of the day, your guide will drive you to your safari camp for dinner and a good night of rest.

Day 2: Game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve

Today you will take early morning and late afternoon game drives in the Maasai Mara. This is a key part of your 7-Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari because it helps you see the most wildlife. Animals are always more active during the cooler hours of the day. If your visit happens during the great migration, you stand a chance of seeing the massive movement of animals across the plains. You will look for big cats like lions and cheetahs hunting in the grass.

Day 3: Fly to Serengeti National Park

Take to the sky again for your transfer to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. This is another short and scenic trip over the Mara and into the Serengeti plains. After landing at the airstrip in the Serengeti, you will start your game viewing adventure immediately. Your guide will drive you through the park to your safari camp. You will spend two nights in this famous park, enjoying the peace of the wilderness.

Day 4: Game drive in Serengeti National Park

Explore different areas of the Serengeti on this full day game drive. You will encounter wildebeests, lions, and zebras. You will also see elephants, buffaloes, and hippos. Look out for gazelles, hyenas, and giraffes. You might even spot smaller animals like the dik-dik, impala, or the fox.

Keep your binoculars close because the Serengeti has many birds. You can see water birds and birds that live in the trees or the open grass. Before you return to your lodge, you can visit a Maasai community. This is a great chance for a cultural encounter to learn how the local people live with the wildlife.

Day 5: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today you transfer to the home of the largest unbroken crater in the world, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will take game drives around the area west of the Gol Mountains. The short grass plains here make it easy to see animals. The Ndutu plains also offer excellent game viewing. While you are in Ngorongoro, you can visit the Olduvai Gorge. This is a famous place where old bones and tools were found. You can also visit local communities to see their way of life.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Drive

Today we explore the famous Ngorongoro Crater. You will drive down to the floor of the crater for a game drive. This is one of the best places in the world to see the Big 5. These are the lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino. You will also see many species of birds around the lake inside the crater.

An optional activity today is a guided walk around the crater rim. This walk offers great views of the crater below and the high lands of the area. It is a peaceful way to end the animal viewing part of your 7-Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari.

Day 7: End of Safari

Enjoy your breakfast on a relaxed morning. You can listen to the birds of Ngorongoro singing as the sun comes up. Your safari guide will drive you to the airstrip. You will take your flight transfer to Arusha. From there, you can catch your international flight back home. This marks the end of your 7 day adventure.
