Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Murchison Falls National Park
Your tour driver will pick you up from your hotel in Entebbe around midday. You will be driven to the airport or the local airfield for your domestic flight to Murchison Falls National Park. Flying is a great way to start your 10-Day Uganda & Tanzania Safari as it saves you a long day of driving.
A tour guide will meet you at the park and drive you to your lodge for check in and a delicious lunch. In the late afternoon, you will go on your first game drive in the northern part of the park. You will have dinner and spend the night at your lodge in the middle of the wild.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise to the falls
Start the day early with a game drive in the largest national park in Uganda. As the golden sunrise lights up the park, you will see many animals. Look for giraffes, bushbucks, warthogs, and lions. You might also spot leopards, hyenas, elephants, and buffaloes. There are many birds here too, including the rare shoebill stork. After the drive, return to your lodge for a full breakfast and some free time to enjoy the surroundings.
After lunch, take a boat cruise on the Nile River to the base of the mighty Murchison Falls. This is a very exciting part of the 10-Day Uganda & Tanzania Safari. Look out for hippos and large Nile crocodiles along the riverbanks. You will also see many water birds and other animals coming to drink. The boat trip lasts about two to three hours and gives you a great view of the falling water.
Day 3: Top of the falls visit and transfer to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, you will hike or drive to the top of Murchison Falls. This is the most powerful waterfall in the world. You can feel the power of the Nile River as it squeezes through a very narrow gap in the rocks. This is the best place to take clear pictures and videos.
Later, you will begin the drive to Kibale National Park. This journey takes you through local villages and green farms. You will have dinner and spend the night in a lodge located in the middle of a tropical rainforest.
Day 4: Chimp trekking in Kibale and domestic flight to Bwindi
Wake up early and go to the park headquarters for a briefing. A ranger guide will take you into the forest to find the chimpanzees. These animals are our close relatives and are very interesting to watch. It can take between two to six hours to find them in the tall trees.
Chimpanzees are very playful and jump from tree to tree. You will spend one hour watching them swing, eat fruits, and talk to each other. Return to your lodge for lunch, then pack your bags for your flight. You will fly to Bwindi in southwestern Uganda, which is the next major stop on your 10-Day Uganda & Tanzania Safari.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Today is a very big day. You will trek to see the gentle giants, the endangered mountain gorillas. Your ranger guide will lead you into the dense forest. Unlike the chimpanzees, gorillas do not swing through the trees as much. They are very large and calm.
You will spend one hour with the gorilla family. This is a quiet and special time to watch them eat and play. After you leave the forest, your driver will take you back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you can choose to go for a nature walk, visit the Batwa people, or just relax at the lodge.
Day 6: Fly to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania
Your driver will take you to the airstrip for your flight to Tanzania. This flight takes you across the border to the Seronera airstrip in Serengeti National Park. A representative will pick you up and drive you to your new lodge. After check in and lunch, you will go for a late afternoon game drive. You may also visit a nearby Maasai community to learn about their culture and cattle.
Day 7: Game viewing in Serengeti National Park
Spend a full day on game drives in the Serengeti. This is a famous part of the 10-Day Uganda & Tanzania Safari. You will see lions, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles. You can also spot cheetahs, hyenas, elephants, and giraffes. If you are very lucky, you might even see the rare black rhino. You will drive through different parts of the park for a great wildlife experience. You can also choose to take a hot air balloon safari for a view of the plains from the sky.
Day 8 and 9: Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Game drives
For these two days, you will explore the Ngorongoro area. You will see the crater rim and the areas around Lake Ndutu. You will also visit the Gol Mountains and the high lands of Karatu.
Spending time in the famous Ngorongoro Crater is a highlight. The crater floor is full of animals all year round. You can also enjoy guided nature walks or a hot air balloon ride over the crater. These two days give you plenty of time to find any animals you have not seen yet.
Day 10: Flight to Arusha
After breakfast and a relaxed morning, you will be driven to the airstrip for your final domestic flight. You will fly to Arusha airport. This marks the end of your 10-Day Uganda & Tanzania Safari. You will leave with many stories and photos of the amazing wildlife of East Africa.
