This 3 Days Mount Bisoke & Karisimbi Hike tour will take you to two volcanoes in the Virunga region of Northern Rwanda—Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi.
You will hike to the top of each mountain on different days.
Both summits offer trekkers views of lush plants and beautiful scenery. This Rwanda tour is good for visitors who have limited time but enjoy hiking.
The mountain slopes are also home to wildlife such as olive baboons, Ruwenzori monkeys, vervet monkeys, and many bird species.
Detailed 3-Day Mount Bisoke & Karisimbi Climbing Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After arriving at Kigali airport, your tour guide or driver will meet you and take you to Volcanoes National Park, home to the remaining mountain gorillas.
You will have dinner and stay overnight to prepare for the next day’s trek.
This ends day 1 of your 3-day Mount Bisoke & Karisimbi hiking safari.
Day 2: Mount Bisoke hike
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing starting around 7 am. You will be assigned park ranger guides before beginning the hike.
The hike up Mount Bisoke is tough and requires good physical fitness. The climb is challenging, but the views of the forest and the crater lake at the top make it worth the effort.
The climb takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach the top, and about 2 hours to come back down. You should be back at the base by around 4 pm.
Enjoy a late picnic lunch before going to your lodge to rest, have dinner, and stay overnight.
Day 3: Hike to Mount Karisimbi
After breakfast, carry your packed lunch and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing at 7 am. You will be assigned ranger guides and start the hike.
Mount Karisimbi is the highest volcano in the Virunga region, standing at 4,507 meters above sea level.
The hike to the summit offers great views of other volcanoes like Nyamuragira and Nyiragongo in Congo. The hike takes about 6 hours and you may see interesting birds and rare primates.
When you reach about 3,700 meters altitude, you will stop to take photos, have your picnic lunch, then begin the descent.
After the hike, your driver will take you back to Kigali City. This marks the end of your 3 Days Mount Bisoke & Karisimbi hike.
